What can I expect from a Reflexology Session?
At your first appointment, we will complete a confidential medical and emotional wellbeing form and discuss how you are hoping reflexology can help you. You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and will be made comfortable on the massage couch. Some people think it will feel ticklish or uncomfortable, but my clients say it feels wonderful and a deeply relaxing experience. This is your time to do what you want with, some of my clients choose to talk, whilst others drift off to sleep or relax deeply while still being fully aware of the sensations of the treatment. If I feel any areas of imbalance or congestion, I will let you know at the end of the session.
Please allow at least one hour for your appointment to give you time to relax fully after the treatment. There will be time at the end for a drink, a discussion of the treatment and aftercare advice. If you would prefer to experience reflexology on your face rather than the feet, please see the Facial Reflexology page for more details.
How many sessions will I need?
The answer to this is very individual. Many of my clients have a therapy on a monthly basis and this fits in with their desire for a healthy lifestyle and helps to manage any health condition they are experiencing. I usually recommend a course of three sessions to begin with. Reflexology and Reiki work in a cumulative way, so you are more likely to acheive relief from the therapy the more you have it. I usually advise my clients that an initial session will start the healing process but more regular sessions are required to have a lasting effect on wellbeing. Of course any therapy you choose is a wonderfully relaxing treatment as a one off should you wish to treat yourself or a loved one.
Is Reflexology uncomfortable or painful?
Sometimes clients have heard that reflexology can be uncomfortable to receive but this should never be the case and any therapist who causes discomfort should be asked to reduce the pressure. The body will only heal if the recipient is completely relaxed and the reflexology I give is gentle enough to acheive this and firm enough to feel the reflexes are being worked. It is also important to work more gently with the elderly and those with chronic conditions.
Can I have Reflexology during IVF treatment?
I have supported many women going through IVF with reflexology throughout the procedure. It is extremely important to avoid stress during this time and reflexology can be one of the ways to help as it deeply calms and balances the nervous system. Many fertility clinics endorse reflexology during the IVF process and in my experience it is greatly beneficial to my clients who find the process often stressful and overwhelming. Please contact me if you would like further information.
Can I have Maternity Reflexology in the First Trimester?
There is plenty of misinformation out there that reflexology should be avoided during the first trimester. In fact there is no evidence to suggest this is the case and reflexology is a safe therapy throughout all the stages of pregnancy. It can also be the most beneficial in the early few weeks when anxiety and fatigue can be so debilitating. I have over 15 years experience of giving this wonderful therapy to clients at all stages of their pregnancy. Please contact me if you would like further information.
Can I have a combination of therapies in one session?
Yes absolutely! Many of my clients like to combine reflexology and reiki or facial reflexology and foot reflexology in one session. Reiki can be combined with Indian head massage or facial reflexology too. You can even have reflexology and EFT in one session if you wish. Please contact me for more details.
