Reflexology is based on the principle that the entire body is mirrored on the feet. It is a scientific art which links all body parts to specific reflex areas and by gently massaging these reflex points on the foot, nerve endings and blood circulation are stimulated helping the body to remove blockages and restore natural balance. By reducing stress it causes physiological changes in the body such as reduced inflammation, the removal of toxins and the release of pain relief and well being hormones (endorphins and cortisone). By removing tension and stress, the body can begin to heal and function as nature intended.
Many of my clients have reported relief from conditions such as anxiety and stress, Irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, constipation, migraines, pre-menstrual tension, asthma, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, menopausal symptoms, depression and many more. There have been many recent controlled studies to support this.
Reflexology does not claim to cure or diagnose any condition. Please contact me if you would like more details on how this therapy could help a particular condition.
What to expect from a Reflexology Session
During the consultation a relaxing foot spa will be offered, which helps to relax and soften your feet prior to the treatment. You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and will be made comfortable on the massage couch. The session lasts from 45 minutes to an hour depending on your age and state of health. Some people think it will feel ticklish and uncomfortable, but my clients say it feels much better than they imagined and a deeply relaxing experience. If I feel any areas of imbalance or congestion, I will let you know at the end of the session.
Maternity Reflexology aims to optimise the physical and emotional health of pregnant women through working on specific reflex points on the feet. The therapy can be safely given after the first trimester and after a full medical history has been taken. Throughout pregnancy it can help reduce anxiety, calm the mind, balance the hormones, ease insomnia and provide some much needed relaxation. It is helpful in relieving the aches and pains of pregnancy such as fluid retention, indigestion, constipation, SPD, back and joint pain, and most importantly preparing the body for childbirth. Recent trials have found that those receiving regular treatments during pregnancy, tend to deliver closer to term and have shorter and less painful labours.
Reflexology may be very successful for encouraging labour. I work on specific reflex points on the foot to help stimulate the pituitary gland which produces the hormone oxytocin which is necessary to kick start labour. The internal pelvic reflexes are stimulated which can have the same effect as bouncing on a birthing ball!
Please note I will not use these labour techniques until you are 40 weeks pregnant and your midwife has approved the treatment. Please contact me to discuss further.
Self-care is very important after the birth of your baby which can be such an overwhelming time. Reflexology can help to rebalance hormones, restore your energy and give you a little time away from the stresses of your new life. It may also be of help in the prevention and treatment of postnatal depression.
If you prefer a massage, Pregnancy Massage can give you some much needed peace and quiet to help soothe away anxieties and relieve any muscular pain you are experiencing. Pregnancy changes your centre of gravity and puts extra stress on the back, neck and abdominal muscles. Pelvic joints are less stable as ligaments soften in pregnancy, changing your posture which can soon lead to an aching back and hips You will be laying on your side to receive the massage or sitting up, depending on what is the most comfortable position for you.
If you are trying to conceive reflexology can help support you both physically and emotionally. Stress is a complex condition which affects almost all parts of the body in some way. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that it may affect fertility. Cortisol (a hormone released in response to stress) can reduce the production of two hormones vital to conception. Reflexology relaxes the nervous system and balances the hormones and as such is thought to be an effective therapy for encouraging conception and a complementary therapy to medical fertility treatment such as IVF and IUI.
Balanced hormones encourage regular menstruation, promotes ovulation, reduces PMS symptoms and can help relieve the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis. Many couples find the process of ‘trying to conceive’ a stressful time, some have had previous traumatic experiences which bring fear and anxiety. Reflexology may help to calm the mind and ease these stresses.
Recent research suggests that on average around 50% of clients receiving reflexology for fertility issues become pregnant within six months of starting treatment. However, as with all fertility treatments, medical and complementary, there are no guarantees.
With plenty of experience of treating clients and many hours of research and study into fertility issues, I will use the medical information you give me to tailor a unique treatment for you.
Reflexology can be safely used alongside medical fertility treatment such as IVF and IUI and all sessions will focus on key reflexes involved in reproductive health, and bring them into balance. (Please note reflexology will not be given directly after the egg transfer stage during IVF).

Hot Stone Massage
It is said that one stroke of the stone is equivalent to ten of the hand. This therapy has been used for thousands of years for balancing all levels of emotional, mental and physical energies. Volcanic in origin, smooth basalt stones are heated and massaged over the body. It is intensive energy work that enables relaxation and a reduction in stress levels as the stones have a sedative effect on the nervous system.
Hot stones increase the circulation and soften muscle fascia more deeply than traditional massage therapies, providing relief from tense and painful muscles. You will leave feeling relaxed, comforted, soothed and grounded.
This therapy is particularly effective when treating back, neck or shoulder pain. The heat of the stones helps the pain to melt away.
- Sedative effect on the nervous system
- Relief of muscle tightness or pain
- Lymphatic drainage
- Boosts immune system
- Calms digestive system
- Alleviate swelling and reduces inflammation
“The Hot Stone Massage is amazing for stress, I have never felt so relaxed after a massage. It has made a big difference to my lower back pain which I’ve had for years.”
Barbara from Alverstoke

If you are suffering from back, neck, shoulder pain or frequent headaches, Indian Head Massage could really benefit you. Indian Head Massage is a therapeutic massage of the upper back, arms, neck, shoulders, head and face. As well as being deeply relaxing, it can also revitalise you if you feel constantly tired and lack energy.
The facial massage involves the massage of acupressure points on the face which enhance your well being and help you feel balanced.

You will be asked to lie on your front to commence the treatment and the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck and head will be massaged using massage oil. Oils used on the hair are optional, but can really help to improve the condition of dry, damaged hair and a dry scalp. You will then be asked to turn over onto your front to receive the facial massage which concentrates on specific acupressure points.

Hopi Ear Candles
If you are suffering from head colds, hay fever, sinusitis, headaches, swimmers ear or excessive wax this treatment could really benefit you. The candles are made of cotton, beeswax and therapeutic oils. When placed in the ear the candle produces a light suction action and the movement of the flame creates a vibration of air in the candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. It induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for earache, headache and sinus problems. The light suction action gently draws impurities to the surface and gradually softens and breaks up any earwax or mucus that may be blocking the tubes and sinuses within the ear and head. Using high quality, Biosun ear candles which comply with EC guidelines, you can be confident this therapy is safe and non-invasive.
What to expect from an Ear Candling Session
You will be asked to lie down on the massage couch, the candle is placed in the ear and then lit. You will hear a pleasant crackling sound whilst the candle burns down. A facial massage will be carried out which aids lymph drainage. You don’t have to worry about anything falling in your ear as there is a plug to stop this. A few sessions may be advised depending on the reason for the treatment.
